KATSEYE is a six-member girl group created through the Dream Academy reality competition, a joint project between HYBE and Geffen Records. The group debuted on June 28, 2024 with their single “Touch” and almost immediately built a devoted global fanbase called Eyekons.

Manon Bannerman

Manon’s full name is Meret Manon Sarpong Bannerman and she was born and raised in Zürich, Switzerland, which already makes her story pretty different from most K-pop idols. Her mom is Swiss-Italian and her dad is from Ghana, so she grew up with this beautiful blend of European and African heritage that you can genuinely feel when you watch her perform.

Her first language is Swiss-German and she also speaks German, English, and a little French. On top of that she’s been learning Spanish from Daniela since they share a dorm room, which honestly says a lot about how close the members are with each other.

Manon has been writing songs since she was literally five years old, which means music has always been part of who she is rather than something she stumbled into. She is a photography model as well, and her visuals have always been one of the most talked about things about her in the fanbase.

Her nicknames among the members are “Manz” and “Manzanita” which fans find incredibly endearing. She is a huge Billie Eilish fan and her biggest role model is Beyoncé, which honestly makes a lot of sense when you see the elegance she brings to every stage. She loves traveling and always talks about wanting to teleport back home to Switzerland whenever she misses it.

One fun fact that surprises a lot of fans is that she is allergic to strawberries. Her dream charm is the Stellar Tiara, which was chosen to represent the light of hope, royalty, and elegance. As of the time of writing, Manon is on a temporary hiatus from group activities to focus on her health and wellbeing, and the entire KATSEYE fandom has been sending her nothing but love and support during that time.

Sophia Laforteza

Sophia’s full name is Sophia Elizabeth Guevara Laforteza and she was born in Queens, New York, though she has deep roots in the Philippines and spent a significant part of her life there growing up. She is ethnically Filipina and can speak both English and Tagalog fluently. Her mother, Carla Guevara Laforteza, is actually a well-known singer and actress in the Philippines, so you could say performing is genuinely in Sophia’s blood.

She graduated from high school in 2021 before eventually finding her way to Dream Academy and earning her spot as KATSEYE’s leader. Among the members, Sophia is known as the chef of the group, which is something fans love bringing up constantly. She and Yoonchae are both night owls who stay up late, which explains why they get along so well as dorm roommates.

Her favorite color is pink and she cannot live without her dog Charlie (a Chow Chow), her headphones, and her lip balm. She has a deep love for BTS and her bias is V, while she has also spoken about Huh Yunjin from LE SSERAFIM as a second role model.

Sophia even appeared in a 2022 episode of Family Feud Philippines, which Filipino fans absolutely lost their minds over. If she could have any superpower she would choose the ability to fly, inspired by the vivid flying dreams she has had since she was young.

Her nicknames are “Sophie”, “Fifi”, and “Sopheezy” and her dream charm is the Dream Anchor, which represents stability and her role as a support system for the people around her.

Daniela Avanzini

Daniela’s full name is Daniela Andrea Avanzini Llorente and she was born in Atlanta, Georgia before eventually growing up in Los Angeles, California. She is of Venezuelan, Cuban, and Italian descent, which gives her this incredibly vibrant energy that comes through in everything she does on stage. Dance has been at the center of her life for as long as she can remember.

She is a trained ballroom dancer and can also perform Afro-Cuban dance, Afro-style, cha-cha, and salsa, which explains why her movement as KATSEYE’s Main Dancer feels so expressive and layered compared to someone who only trained in one style. Before Dream Academy, Daniela was already well known in the performance world. She placed 10th in Season 13 of So You Think You Can Dance, placed 2nd in Super Kids Europe, and appeared in Season 8 of America’s Got Talent.

She even appeared on the Queen Latifah Show and was featured in Matty B’s music video for “Dramatic.” She is fluent in both English and Spanish and her nickname among the members is simply “Dani.” She is a massive fan of Carti and Lil Uzi Vert and her dream collaboration list includes Beyoncé, Shakira, Rosalía, Rihanna, TXT, BTS, Doja Cat, and Playboi Carti.

If she could have any superpower she would choose telepathy so she could understand what people are thinking about her. She cannot live without her family, her stuffed animal, and her bed, which is the kind of detail that makes fans love her even more. Her dream charm is the Guardian Shield, representing bold confidence, strength, and loyalty.

Lara Rajagopalan

Lara Rajagopalan was born in Los Angeles, California, and her full name in Tamil script is லாரா ராஜகோபாலன், which she has shared publicly and fans have always found incredibly cool. Her mother Kavita Raj is Indian and her father Sri Rajagopalan is Sri Lankan, and both of her parents are ethnically Tamil, making Lara one of the most prominent South Asian voices in K-pop right now.

She speaks English and Tamil and she also produces her own music, which shows how seriously she takes her craft beyond just being a performer. She has an older sister named Rhea Raj who is also a singer, so creative talent clearly runs in the family. Megan Skiendiel

Megan’s full name is Megan Meiyok Skiendiel and in Chinese characters it is written as 梅根美玉斯基恩迪尔. She was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, and her background is a fascinating mix of cultures.

Her mother is Singaporean-Chinese and her father is Swedish-American, making Megan ethnically Swedish and Chinese. Her middle name Meiyok, which means “beautiful jade” in Chinese, is also her nickname and the name people close to her often use.

She speaks English, basic Cantonese, and basic French, and she is also a former J-pop trainee, which gave her a strong foundation before she even entered the Dream Academy competition. Megan has been open about being dyslexic, which is one of the reasons she switched to online school when she was in 4th grade. Despite that, she loves mathematics and has a natural affinity for numbers.

She is a runway and fashion model who has walked at Paris and LA fashion weeks for high fashion couture, which is genuinely impressive for someone her age. She is part of the LGBT+ community and her role models are BLACKPINK‘s Jennie and BTS’s Jimin. Yoonchae Jeong

Yoonchae’s full name is Jeong Yoon-chae (정윤채) though on her Instagram, Weverse, and various official accounts she spells her surname as Jeung, which is how she personally prefers it.

She was born on December 6, 2007, in Seoul, South Korea, making her the youngest member of KATSEYE and also the tallest at 170 cm. She trained under Source Music and also passed CJ E&M auditions back in 2020, so she came into Dream Academy with serious pre-debut experience already behind her.

She is also friends with Choi Jungeun of izna from their time training together under WakeOne, which fans of both groups have been excited about since it came to light. Yoonchae speaks both Korean and English and her favorite color is pink. She and Sophia are both night owls and share a dorm room, which has given the fandom plenty of cute content over the years. BTS are the whole reason Yoonchae got into K-pop and decided to pursue it as a career, and her role models are BLACKPINK’s Jennie and BTS.

Her nicknames include “Bruni”, “Marshmallow”, “Yoonchip”, and the very specific “Jeongyookmyeonchae” which translates to something like “cube” and somehow suits her perfectly. If she could have any superpower she would pick telekinesis, specifically because she could turn off the lights and eat cereal without using her hands, which is the most maknae answer imaginable.

She cannot live without her family, music, and food. Her dream charm is the Soothing Shell, chosen to represent her gentle energy and her ability to bring calm and comfort to the rest of the members.
